On March 23, the 500 kV Jingyuan (Jingmen East) Substation in Sunqiao Town, Jingshan District, Jingmen City, Hubei Province, successfully commenced operation and began transmitting electricity. This is the first 500 kV substation put into operation in Hubei Province during the 15th Five-Year Plan period. During the 15th Five-Year Plan period, eastern Zhongxiang, southern Jingshan, and western Hubei will focus on developing 1.34 million kilowatts of new energy projects, mainly wind power. The operation of the 500 kV Jingyuan Substation provides the conditions for its connection to the Hubei power grid and lays the foundation for the green development of the Yangtze River Midstream Economic Belt.
The 500 kV Jingyuan Substation is located in Jingmen City, the "Gateway to Hubei," situated in a major channel of the "West-to-East Power Transmission" project. It is an important node for power transmission from hydropower stations such as the Three Gorges Dam and Gezhouba Dam, as well as the third phase of the Jingmen Power Plant. The two 500 kV transmission lines output from this substation terminate at the Yuxian Substation in Wuhan. The 500 kV Jingyuan Substation not only adds momentum to Hubei's economic development but also becomes a crucial power hub for the new era of "crossroads of China."
It is reported that the Jingyuan Substation has put into operation two 1000 MVA transformers this phase, increasing the power supply capacity of the Jingmen power grid from 1.9 million kilowatts to 3.4 million kilowatts. This not only optimizes the power supply structure of the central Hubei power grid but also eliminates the bottleneck restricting the power supply capacity of the Jingmen municipal power grid, meeting the power supply needs of the region's economic development during the 15th and 16th Five-Year Plan periods.
